Smart card clocking enables workers to add reasons why they were absent

In a poll conducted to look into working habits and absenteeism, one Welsh woman revealed she took time off because "limescale from the shower fell into her eye". This and a myriad of flimsy excuses were given why people had to miss work. The survey found one in three workers admitted to having lied to take sick leave. Absenteeism costs British businesses billions of pounds annually, but the report said: “Our findings suggest a large chunk of this loss is preventable.”
