Up to 250 jobs will go at Companies House based in Cardiff. It employs the majority of its Welsh-based staff of 1,100 in Cardiff, and 290 in Nantgarw, Rhondda Cynon Taf.
A Llandrindod Wells stationery firm has had to make 66 workers redundant after it went into administration. IXL 2008 Limited makes items such as box files and ring binders which are sold worldwide. The firm has faced an uncertain future before as its previous owner, Setten and Durward, was placed in administration in February, 2008.

A ‘high tech’ firm will soon be creating 60 jobs in Swansea. Trojan Electronics will lease a site at the Swansea Vale Central Business Park near the M4. It is moving in to the Olympus B building at Swansea Vale developed by the Welsh Industrial Partnership, which is a joint venture between Royal Bank of Scotland and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Both Swansea and Newport were included in a new report in the list of five areas deemed most vulnerable to employment cuts and unlikely to feel the benefits of any economic recovery for longer than other places. The paper says Swansea and Newport “could each directly lose 2.9% of all jobs in their cities”.
Welsh Local Government Association leader John Davies said an agreement between councils and trade unions represented “a significant achievement in terms of dealing with public expenditure cuts in Wales”. All of Wales’ councils have signed a voluntary deal on issues like overtime with unions to work on managing the impact of public spending cuts on jobs and services.
The Airbus plant in Broughton has had a major jobs boost this week, as more than 700 agency staff are to be taken on. The staff members are already working at the site as contractors employed by Blue Arrow but now they will join the Airbus payroll. Burton’s Foods will consult with seventy employees at its factory in Llantarnam, Cwmbran. The firm put the redundancies down to cost cutting and called the job losses "deeply regrettable". It said it had to respond to an increasingly challenging and competitive environment by reducing costs and increasing productivity.
Jobs are under serious threat following a plan to replace the Dyfed-Powys Police helicopter with an aircraft. The helicopter will be scrapped if plans for a National Police Air Service (NPAS) in Wales and England get the go-ahead. The new national service would reduce the number of air bases to 20.
