Sixty jobs could go at a site in Flint after restructuring by a parent company. The Delyn facility owned by Kimberly-Clark Professional, which makes hand towels, is the only part of the Flint plant that will be affected.

A planned shutdown for the Aberpergwm Colliery near Glynneath will affect about 270 employees. Aberpergwm employs the largest number of miners in Wales and is believed to have coal reserves of about 6.8m tonnes.

Some 76 workers on the Deeside Industrial Park face job losses, it was revealed yesterday (October 9, 2012). Paramount Foods employs 312 people on the Park.

A supermarket will create new 200 jobs in Ystalyfera in the Swansea Valley. A store will be built by new owners Asda on the derelict former Dewhirst factory site in Glanyrafon and is due to open in November.

Up to 90 jobs are under threat at the Aberpergwm Colliery. The owners are concerned about the implications of the plan for a wind farm near its site, near Glynneath, which it says could “sterilise” land for mining.

The basic salary of councillors has increased in 14 of Wales’ 22 local authorities this year. At the other eight councils, members’ basic pay will be cut. There has also been a change to council leaders and other post holders’ pay.
